Housing stats and analysis from NAR's research experts.

Echo Boomers And Home Buying

• Echo boomers—children of baby boomers—grew to the largest segment of home buyers in the most recent Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers. In fact, more than one-third (36 percent) of recent buyers was ages 25 to 34 years old. This segment of home buyers is at the highest share in the last decade.
• Not only has housing affordability has opened the market to younger buyers, but this segment of the population is now able to purchase a home with an education and career under their belt.
• The echo boomers have been credited with reinventing their 20s: ensuring a college education before getting married, getting married older, and having children later in life, but they still have the desire to be homeowners. Echo boomers are more likely to purchase a home single than a married adult of their parent’s generation.
